The Woman of the House

In more traditional societies, wives are the homemakers. Today in our society, family relationships are not always so simple, but women still claim this role as their own.

Women are natural homemakers. We have a love for beauty and order; we like our homes to be pretty and practical. We care deeply for our families, and provide for their comforts: in the meals we prepare, the clothes we buy, make, wash, and mend, and the rooms we decorate and clean.

We make sure our husbands and children are fed, clothed, bathed, and loved. We can multitask, and adapt to new situations or challenges with grace. We take pride in our homes and families, and dedicate ourselves to them willingly. We are homemakers.

VARIETY IS THE SPICE OF HOMEMAKING

Every home functions a little differently, and there are different styles of homemaking to match.

Some homemakers are homesteaders. They live on some land, cultivate a garden, raise animals, and aim for self-sufficiency. Not everyone wants to do this, and that’s okay!

Other homemakers live in city apartments or condos, and find their calling in making their homes quiet, lovely havens in the midst of noise and traffic.

Some homemakers are mothers who spend a good part of their days caring for young children. Some mothers homeschool older children, while others drive their kids to school and different activities.

There are mothers with grown children, who still find joy in homemaking after their kids have left; or else they find new meaning in homemaking through welcoming grandchildren.

Still other homemakers have no children, and devote their time and attention to their husbands, as well as their neighbors, friends, and relatives.

There is no cookie-cutter stamp when it comes to homemaking, no one-size-fits-all, and that’s a good thing! Creativity and finding your own rhythm are part of what makes homemaking so much fun!
